I guess I've finally put all the finishing touches on this and it's ready to see the light of day. I'll spare the details of how much work went into building this behemoth scene, but I somehow enjoyed every bit of it.

This is an exact, voxel for pixel, 3D recreation of a section of Stage 7 - The Hangar - from the 8bit Nintendo classic Contra. Contra is easily one of the most famous and greatest video games ever created; although, this is the main game that causes every hipster to instantly recite the Konami Code (Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, [Select], Start) whenever the NES or retrogaming is mentioned.

This has become my personal favorite creation to date, and I never thought I'd top my Ice Hockey renders. Much gratitude to anyone that checks this out, uses it as a wallpaper, faves it, or comments on it. If this deviation gets decent enough fanfare, I'll likely make some more 3-D scenes from this game. Be on the watch for several Megaman 2 wallpapers in the coming weeks, they'll be almost as bad ass as this one. :D

I swear those orange spiky things are almost identical to the ones found in level 4 of Double Dragon II. I'll have to check some screenshots to compare them.

Oh my god... that is spectacular! One of my favorites from back in the day! My best friend and I would always do the Konami Code for multiple lives, and try to beat the game... Great times.

Wow Dude!

I can tell that you really out a lot of work into this! When I first saw it, I thought it was a screen shot from the game! You really nailed it with this one. It makes me want to fire up my NES and play some classic Contra! I never got into all the other Contra games. As far as I'm concerned, the first one was by far the best one. (But that could very well be my age showing!)

With all the HD remakes that are coming out, I would totally play a 3D version of Contra if it looked like this! A++

how did you get it pixelated, yet still so sharp and 3D?
you should use 'stereo image creator' (freeware) and make an actual 3d image of this, it would be so cool!

Takes a lot of nerve and patience to make all those small details. Making 2D picture into 3D also posses a challenge, especially for old graphics. This work is an excelent display of skill.
